Family Deer hunt

Driving home from a busy week at work i was in need of some stress relief and what better way then a night out under the stars.
I called Emily and with our meat freezer nearly empty we decided on a camping/hunting trip up the hills with our boys.
Arriving to the property we only had a bit over an hour  of light left so quickly setup and headed for a quick hike up the mountain to view a small gully with the boys.
We only seen a few roos and a couple of wallabies. With the sun setting fast we made our way back to camp not wanting to be walking too much in the dark with 2 young kids   Back at camp and light almost all gone we finished setting up camp and lit the fire as Taj was all to eager to roast some marsh mallows.
With the boys getting restless we put them down in the camper trailer for some rest before a early start to try get ourselves a look at a elusive sambar deer.
We were up before the sun, filled our bellies, loaded our back packs and we were off. Walking off in the other direction we went the night before we werent seeing allot of sign. Trying to educate our boys along the way.
We came across a nice little gully and decided to glass that out for a while. And again didnt see a great deal from this spot.
Its about this time on every hunt you start second guessing yourself.
We started moving to another spot and as expected the boys started getting a little restless so we decided to stop for a little picnic on the mountain. It must of been a bit too comfortable for our 1 year old Logan as he ended up falling asleep in his mothers arms.
We were contemplating heading back when Emily suggested i walk on a little bit and check out the next gully. After little persuasion i marked there position on the gps organised what channel we were both going to be on on the 2ways and i continued my hike up the mountain.
After a slow walk for around 20mins a came to a nice area that gave a nice view of a gully that i was sure to produce a sambar.
Not wanting to be too long away from Emily and the boys i got up after around 30mins of looking over the gully, walked maybe 15 meters and was stopped by a hind and spiker stag feeding on a ridge behind me. They were walking slowly toward me so i edged 5 meters to my left very slowly to get a little cover behind a tree.  I drew my gun and waited for a shot. The hind stayed on the ridge while the stag kept edging closer. As he got within 30 meters he presented a perfect shot and i took it.
Happy with my shot placement i sat for a couple minutes before heading in the direction i last seen him. Following the blood trail i soon found him 40 odd meters from where i shot him.    A quick chat on the 2 way with Emily we were reunited to show the boys the deer and get a couple of quick pics.
